My Impressions After Wearing the Oura Ring 5 for 2 Weeks

Now that training has become a habit, I wanted to measure my progress with a wearable device. After considering various options, I decided to purchase the Oura Ring 5. (I was also considering the Google Fitbit Air, but due to its material, I thought I would need to take it off when bathing. Thus, the Oura Ring 5, which seems to be wearable continuously, was chosen.)
Now that it has been two weeks since it arrived, I’ll share my thoughts.
First, the model I purchased is the Brushed Silver. I felt this design would be the least likely to become boring over time, so I went with this.

I had never worn a smart ring before, so I can't compare it to other products. However, based on Oura Ring 5's promotional materials, it seems to be quite lightweight.
Upon wearing it, I realized that "thickness" is more important than "weight."
Since it is generally worn continuously, it is crucial that it does not interfere with any movement. The Oura Ring 5 is reduced to a thickness of 2.28mm, making it one of the thinnest in the smart ring category.

Price
65,800 yen to 81,800 yen (varies by color)
Additionally, a subscription of about 1,000 yen per month is required (it feels almost essential, although I think it can be used without it).
Compared to other products, it is a bit pricey, but personally, that gives it a certain allure. The worst thing is to have something cheap but of poor quality...
Even if you subscribe for 30 years, that's 12,000 yen * 30 = 360,000 yen.
From the perspective of investing in health, I felt it was within an acceptable range.
Genuine Impressions
From the standpoint of whether it gets in the way, there are times when it does, but I feel it's manageable with familiarity.
The most bothersome aspect was when wiping my face with my hand in the bathroom, as the ring would snag and hurt. It’s a minor issue, but surprisingly, it became a point of concern every day. However, I learned the technique of wiping with the four fingers on my hand that does not have the ring, and I’ve gotten used to it so it’s not an issue anymore.
As for using gym equipment, this was also a concern, but in practice, it hardly bothered me.
However, the ring has developed some noticeable scratches over these two weeks. I’m not sure exactly when they happened, but I suspect they were from working out at the gym.
At first, I was shocked, but I’ve come to terms with it. In reality, my wedding ring is also now full of scratches, and I think it’s tough to find any ring that remains scratch-free.
It’s also possible I may have scratched it while doing the dishes.

Measurements
It can do a lot.
Some features require 30 days of data, so there are still some data that I can't view yet (activity consumption, average steps).
These are the ones I check often:
- Sleep
- Activity
- Condition
- Daytime Stress

Since you can wear it continuously, it’s good that data can be measured accurately and consistently without interruption.
Previously, when I measured with an Apple Watch, I would forget to put it back on after taking it off in the bath, so the data was sporadic.
Charging
Ideally, I would prefer a device that does not require charging, but it can’t be helped. (I believe it’s not impossible, as there are examples like the MOTHER Bracelet).
The Oura Ring 5 lasts about a week on a full charge. It takes about 30 minutes to fully charge, so I think it would be fine to set a fixed schedule for charging once a week.

There is also an API
The Oura Ring has an API available, allowing you to access your data through the API.
I thought about what interesting things I could do with it, but I couldn’t come up with much...
For now, I’ve decided to display the data on my own site.
You can check sleep time, activity logs, stress levels, etc. (Who benefits from that? w)
Conclusion
So far, I’ve been able to keep it on constantly except for charging, and I can envision using it for a few more years.
Based on reviews, there are many fans of the Oura Ring, and since many upgrade to new versions, that has increased my trust in it.
